Definition
A calculated weight based on the amount of space a package occupies rather than only its scale weight.
In practical terms
Dimensional weight helps transportation networks account for lightweight packages that use substantial vehicle or aircraft capacity. It is calculated from package dimensions using the applicable dimensional factor, then compared with actual weight.
Example
A large lightweight box has an actual weight of 8 kg but a dimensional weight of 18 kg, so 18 kg becomes the chargeable weight.
