Warehousing

Receiving

Definition

The warehouse process of accepting inbound goods and verifying their quantity, identity, condition, and documentation.

In practical terms

Receiving creates the inventory record that downstream storage and fulfillment rely on. Exceptions such as damage, shortages, or unexpected items should be recorded promptly.

Example

A receiving team counts pallets, scans product labels, photographs damage, and records the accepted quantities.
