Freight Fundamentals

Carrier

Definition

A company that physically transports goods by a particular mode or delivery network.

In practical terms

A carrier operates or controls transportation capacity such as trucks, aircraft space, vessels, rail service, or parcel delivery networks. A freight forwarder may arrange the carrier rather than move the goods itself.

Example

A trucking company assigned to collect and deliver a pallet is the motor carrier for that movement.
