Directory methodology

Codes and annual throughput, with the measurement basis shown.

UN/LOCODE and customs identifiers. Each card shows annual cargo tonnage and TEU. Not reported means the official source did not publish that port-level measure or the gateway is not a material container port. Annual statistics can use different facility boundaries and reporting methods, so figures should be compared with the stated source and year in mind.

Major gateway scope

The ten highest-tonnage commercial ports in SEMAR’s 2024 annual data plus five strategic container, energy, and corridor gateways.

Annual cargo tonnes

Published cargo throughput converted to metric tonnes where the original source used another unit.

TEU handling

TEU represents twenty-foot-equivalent container volume. Bulk-focused ports may have no separately reported TEU value.

Planning note: Directory figures support research and routing conversations. Confirm the terminal, carrier, customs release, appointment rules, operating hours, and current availability before dispatch.

Port drayage

Connect the gateway to the inland freight network.

FreightXO can coordinate drayage or port pickup after terminal and release details are confirmed. Use LTL for eligible palletized freight or FTL for dedicated capacity, containers, larger shipments, urgent recovery, and specialized equipment.

Pickup checklist

Confirm release, freight, and delivery details.

Release and facility

Provide the exact terminal or handling agent, shipment reference, customs status, release number, availability date, and storage or free-time deadline.

Freight and equipment

Confirm piece count, dimensions, weight, commodity, container or vehicle requirements, hazardous status, temperature needs, and driver credentials.

Appointments and delivery

Confirm pickup rules, cutoff times, destination appointment, unloading plan, empty return when applicable, and site access requirements.

Frequently asked questions

Mexico gateway and freight answers.

What does the annual cargo figure measure?

The measurement is stated on each card. It may represent cargo loaded and unloaded, landed weight, or total port-area throughput. Use the year and basis before comparing gateways.

Why do some ports show no reported TEU?

Some gateways specialize in bulk, energy, automotive, breakbulk, or project cargo. The official annual source may not publish a separate container total for every port.

Can FreightXO arrange gateway pickup?

FreightXO can coordinate airport retrieval or port drayage when the cargo is released, facility requirements are confirmed, and appropriate carrier capacity is available.

Does a port code identify the exact terminal?

No. Confirm the carrier, terminal, handling agent, customs office, appointment system, and release instructions. A city-level code alone is not enough for dispatch.

Official sources and review basis

Gateway selection and annual cargo measures use SEMAR data. Codes were checked against the applicable national and international code systems. Values marked Not reported were not inferred from partial periods.

Reviewed August 12, 2026. Preliminary figures can be revised, and facility boundaries differ. Confirm current operating details before filing or dispatch.
