Major commercial seaports in the USA.
Search 82 U.S. commercial seaports by port name, city, state, region, UN/LOCODE, or CBP Schedule D code. Each entry includes a concise description of its commercial cargo role.
Understanding U.S. port codes
UN/LOCODE and CBP codes identify different parts of the shipment process.
UN/LOCODE is a five-character location code used in international trade and transport. A CBP Schedule D code is a four-digit customs port code used for U.S. foreign-trade reporting and customs processing. A terminal, port authority, customs port, and carrier routing point can have different names or boundaries, so the code must be matched to the shipment document.
The four-digit customs district and port code used in U.S. import, export, and manifest systems, such as 2704 for Los Angeles.
A port code does not identify the exact marine terminal, pier, container yard, appointment system, steamship line, or release status.
Directory scope: This list covers major active commercial coastal, Lower Mississippi, Great Lakes, Alaska, Hawaii, Puerto Rico, and Guam gateways. It excludes marinas, naval-only facilities, minor landings, and most inland river ports.

Drayage and port pickup
Connect the marine terminal to the inland delivery.
FreightXO can coordinate drayage and port pickup when the container or cargo is released and the terminal requirements are confirmed. USA FTL can support container drayage, transload moves, dedicated truckload, and specialized equipment. USA LTL can support eligible palletized freight after deconsolidation or transloading.
Drayage planning checklist
Provide the terminal and release details before dispatch.
Provide the steamship line, container number, size and type, bill of lading, terminal, release number, customs status, and availability date.
Confirm appointment rules, chassis responsibility, overweight needs, reefer settings, hazardous status, driver credentials, and terminal access requirements.
Provide the delivery address, receiving appointment, live unload or drop plan, free-time deadline, empty-return location, and final cutoff.
Frequently asked questions
Seaport code and drayage answers.
Is a UN/LOCODE the same as a CBP port code?
No. UN/LOCODE identifies a trade and transport location. A CBP Schedule D code identifies a U.S. customs district or port for customs and foreign-trade reporting. One commercial port area may contain multiple facilities while sharing a customs port code.
Can FreightXO pick up a container from a U.S. seaport?
FreightXO can coordinate drayage and port pickup when the container is released, terminal access is available, the appointment and chassis plan are confirmed, and suitable carrier capacity is available.
What information is needed for a drayage quote?
Provide the port and terminal, container size and type, availability date, last free day, steamship line, chassis plan, cargo weight, delivery address, receiving requirements, and empty-return location.
Can port cargo move by LTL?
Ocean containers normally move from the terminal by drayage. After the cargo is deconsolidated or transloaded, eligible palletized freight may continue by LTL. A dedicated truck or FTL move may be better for larger, urgent, sensitive, or high-control freight.
Does a port code identify the marine terminal?
No. Confirm the exact terminal, pier, container yard, steamship line, release, and appointment system. Sending a driver with only a city-level port code can cause delay or a dry run.
Port selection uses the U.S. Department of Transportation Bureau of Transportation Statistics Port Performance Freight Statistics Program and its current port dataset. UN/LOCODE values were checked against the 2025-1 release published by UNECE in 2026. CBP values were checked against Appendix L, Schedule D Port Codes, dated February 13, 2025.
Reviewed August 12, 2026. Port boundaries, customs assignments, terminal operators, services, and cargo programs can change. Confirm the port code and exact facility with the steamship line, broker, port authority, or terminal before filing or dispatch.
